1991 Golf GTi cabriolet 2.0 16v conversion
This 1991 Golf cabriolet was converted from the standard 1.8 8v to a 2.0 16v unit. The injection system was used from a 1.8 16v Corrado, and modified to increase the fuelling. The engine ECU and idle control unit were retained from the Corrado giving a smooth tick over and increased low rev range power, but still giving you the hard push in the back as the revs clime over 3500 rpm. The exhaust is a Supersprint chrome 4-2-1 designed for the 1.8 16v engine, but an extension slide allows it to be used on the taller 2.0 16v unit. The new engine has only covered about 30K miles, and once the engine has started to loosen up, it is estimated that the engine will produce in excess of the current proven power of 160bhp.
